Local Mum and Counsellor Nominated for Increasing Awareness of Protective Behaviours

Candise Adams of Safe Counselling Australia has been nominated for the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards.

The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

Candise decided to open her business after working directly with families impacted by child sexual abuse. Candise really wanted to continue working with these families but also work preventatively. Candise is passionate about providing families and organisations the skills to help protect their children by helping provide children with the tools to use their voice to know how to protect themselves. She developed body assertiveness and body ownership programs to help prevent children from becoming an opportunity of child sexual abuse. The average age for a child to be targeted for child sexual abuse is between 3 and 8 years old. Government schools have made it mandatory to teach Protective Behaviours but children start school between the age of 4 and 5. Candise’s aim is to have all daycare staff, parents and caregivers trained in Protective Behaviours so early prevention can be the focus to keep children safe.

There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Candise Adams explains, “As a mother of three I wanted to be able to be available for my children but also felt that I had an obligation to share my knowledge to give children life changing skills of body assertiveness and ownership.”

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Candise Adams gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. ”It’s not about striving for the perfect balance, but rather giving yourself enough time to pause, refill and replenish so that you can continue on your road to giving back and success. We cannot continue to give without giving to ourselves first.”
