It was just two weeks ago that I returned home from New York City and man am I feeling the holiday blues. NYC has been on my bucket list since I became obsessed with the TV show Sex and the City in the 2000’s and I finally got to stroll the streets like “Carrie Bradshaw” this year.
This list won’t be for everyone and NYC won’t be on everyone’s bucket list but I was inundated with messages whilst I was away with people’s requests of what they should see, do and eat when they go on their next adventure to the city that never sleeps.
So here is my “to do” list of New York!
You must abso-f**ikinglutely do the “Sex and the City” tour…
You’ll laugh your head off whilst stopping at all the memorable places from the hit TV show from 90s/00s! You can snap a pick at Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on her front steps – I almost cried with happiness venturing here. It’s so surreal and has 100’s of people visit it daily. A stop for a Cosmo at “Aiden & Steve’s” bar (really known as O’Neill’s) was an absolute highlight, I thought I was the next Carrie Bradshaw.
Chelsea Markets was very chilled and a market of food awaits you! I ate the best Mexican combined Japanese meal! EVER! Whatever you do DON’T eat before you get here, it’s really all about the food!
Walk the “High line” baby
Team the High line walk up with lunch at Chelsea markets! This walk is beautiful and really easy 4km walk through the high rise buildings on a path that is built upon the old train tracks. Its super modern and well worth the walk.
Ride through Central Park
This is must do and very self-explanatory. Seriously do it! Very fun.
Buddakan NYC is hands down the best feed I have ever had
This restaurant featured in the “Sex and the city” movie where Carrie and Big had their wedding rehearsal dinner BUT that is just a side note because the food here is absolutely delicious and I reckon the best meal I’ve ever eaten! We went with the “dim sum” and it is next level! The service is outstanding and you cannot pass on dessert! Seriously outstanding! Try the edamame dumplings and like I said, save room for dessert!! It doesn’t matter if you’re a “Sex and the City” fan because the food is just the bomb and worth the price.
Sleep No More…
In the city that never sleeps, this really is something else! It’s amazing and at times an uncomfortable experience. You are pushed out of your comfort zone but it is well worth the two hours.
It’s an interactive theatre and something everyone should do. You all wear masks and you are a part of many different performances that go on throughout a hotel! You don’t act neither, so calm down, it’s more like you are ghosts in the room full of actors! Lots of fun and a must do.
Broadway…If you do NYC you must do a show, right?
Well…Go see “Kinky Boots”! It’s hands down the best show I have ever seen!
Best Pic of NYC
Head to Brooklyn Heights seriously the best view of the city and the views from Brooklyn Bridge of both Brooklyn & Manhattan was incredible!
It’s an amazing adventure over the bridge with screaming cyclists at tourists, market stalls and loads of tourists…But the adventure is worth it.
Yankees Game…really? YES its, a must do!
The stadium is in the Bronx but going to a game of baseball (even though I’m not a fan) was super fun! The atmosphere was incredible and the yanks love it, the place was packed on a Tuesday!
Sunset bevvy on a Roof Top!
There are so many Rooftop bars in New York but my fav was Mr Purple, it was an incredible spot to watch the sunset over the city and the skyline was a perfect view for our last night in the most perfect city.
A decent coffee is hard to find BUT I have the best coffee in NYC…
Gasoline Alley Coffee is at 325 Lafayette Street and the staff here are VERY friendly and make the best coffee I have ever had. The owner is apparently an Aussie too!
Empire State Building…head to the top floor!
Most people will have this building on their sightseeing list of things to do but a lot of you won’t go all the way to the top because of the cost…BUT You must! It’s an incredible view and one of the best moments I had, you see the entire island and for me, this was seriously a perfect moment. You can spot all of the famous buildings around the city.
Perfect Instagram pics…
If you love art or posing in front of it then head to Soho. You’ll find loads of graffiti in Soho that you can Instagram…just stroll the streets of Chinatown and Little Italy to see the graffiti art, its well worth it.
Don’t forget to pack your joggers, the best way to see the city is by foot! It’s exhausting but pounding the NYC pavement in your activewear is hands down the way to see this amazing city.
What are your tips?
